London Heathrow Airport

Heathrow (LHR) is one of the world’s busiest airports, handling more international passengers than any other. The airport is located 15 miles (24km) to the west of central London. Upon arrival, the Heathrow Express offers the quickest – but also most expensive – method of getting into central London. Trains leave Heathrow airport from approximately 0500 until 2330. Standard fares are £13 single and £25 return. The Heathrow Express calls at the two stations serving the airport, one for Terminal 1-3 and the other for Terminal 4. Journey time is 15-20 minutes and the service is non-stop to Paddington station.

Much cheaper and simpler, but also longer, the Piccadilly tube line connects Heathrow airport directly to Paddington. There are trains every few minutes from approximately 0500 (0550 Sundays) to 2345 (2250 Sundays). A single ticket into central London (Zone 1) costs £3.80.

London Gatwick Airport

London Gatwick (LGW) is the second largest airport in the UK after Heathrow. It is the seventh busiest international airport in the world, handling 30 million passengers every year. Gatwick airport is located 28 miles (45km) south of London. The two terminals, North and South, are linked by an efficient monorail service, with a journey time of two minutes. Once again, the Gatwick Express is the quickest way into central London. Trains leave Gatwick Airport from 0435 to 0135. The station is in the South Terminal and linked to other parts by escalators and lifts. At peak times trains run every 15 minutes (from 0605 to 2005) and roughly every 30 minutes off-peak. Standard fares are £12 single and £23.50 return. Journey time is 30 minutes and the service is non-stop to Victoria station.

Alternatively, South Central Trains services operate every 15 minutes during the day between Gatwick and Victoria – and every hour between 0100 and 0400. The journey time is 45 minutes. A standard single ticket costs £8. This service runs from Victoria station to both terminals and takes a little longer than the Gatwick Express.

London Stansted Airport

From Stansted London Stansted (STN) is London's third international gateway and one of the fastest growing airports in Europe. It is home to many of the UK's low-cost airlines, serving mostly European and Mediterranean destinations. The airport is located 35 miles (56km) to the North-East of London.

Once again, the Stansted Express is the quickest way into central London. Trains leave Stansted Airport from 0600 to 2359. At peak times they run every 15 minutes (from 0800 to 1700 Monday-Friday) and every 30 minutes off-peak. Standard fares are £13.80 single and £24 for return. Journey time is 41 minutes and trains stop at Tottenham Hale station before terminating at Liverpool Street station.
